The Horticultural District of Saonara brings the excellence of Veneto's greenery to the My Plant & Garden Middle East Green Expo in Dubai

November 11th, 2025

Coordinated by Venicepromex, the District presents the products of the horticultural companies of the area, historically the heart of Italian floriculture, to promote quality, sustainability, and innovation around the world.

(Saonara - Padua, November 10th, 2025) – The Horticultural District of Saonara enters the world stage: the quality of Veneto's greenery lands in Dubai.

The Horticultural District of Saonaraproduzi, the beating heart of flower and plant production in Veneto and one of the most important huibs in Italy, is participating – coordinated by Venicepromex, the agency for the internationalization of the Veneto Chamber of Commerce system and with the support of the Padua Chamber of Commerce – to My Plant & Garden Middle East Green Expo scheduled to take place in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) from November 15th to 17th, a key event for the ornamental greenery and landscaping sector worldwide.

Excellence in Italian greenery

Located in the heart of the Padana Plain, between Padua and the Brenta Riviera, the Saonara Flower and Plant District is a production system of excellence recognized nationally and internationally.

Currently, more than half of the horticultural businesses in the province of Padua are concentrated in Saonara: approximately 70 production units, which account for 25% of the regional total. The sector covers an area of over 1,000 hectares of cultivated land, including open-field nurseries and fixed greenhouses located in the territory of Saonara and neighboring municipalities.

Almost all of the companies in the district are long-established businesses, born from the experience and passion of families who have handed down their skills, professionalism, and green culture for generations. Today, around 500 workers are permanently employed in the district's floriculture activities, testifying to the economic, occupational, and social importance of this sector for the entire Padua area.

The District specializes in the production of fruit trees, vines, small fruits, and rose bushes, as well as ornamental plants and hedges, most of which are native to the area.

Specifically, companies specializing in the production of fruit trees represent a wealth of expertise and variety that is unique in Italy. Over 300 varieties of apricot, cherry, kiwi, fig, apple, pear, plum, peach, nectarine, persimmon, almond, pomegranate, hazelnut, medlar, and chestnut trees testify to the extraordinary biodiversity of the area.

There is also ample space for ornamental production, with over 150 varieties of roses—from large flowers to polyantha, from miniatures to climbing roses and saplings—and a rich selection of small fruits such as blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, and currants.

The offer is completed by grape-vines producers, who offer a wide range of high-quality products for the domestic and foreign markets.

All the companies in the District's fruit sector boast a high level of specialization and operate in compliance with European standards.

It is precisely this high level of technical specialization, ability to innovate, and constant focus on environmental sustainability that make the Saonara District a benchmark for urban and landscape design in Italy and abroad.

An integrated production and marketing system

The companies of the District stand out for their synergy between traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology. Thanks to a network of cooperatives and consortia, the Saonara production system guarantees quality, traceability, and commercial flexibility, meeting the needs of landscape architects, garden designers, and international distributors.

Every day, plants from companies of the Horticultural District of Saonara are shipped to wholesalers, garden centers, and large retailers in Italy and around the world. The District's commercial network is solid and dynamic: its products are available throughout Europe, as well as in numerous non-EU countries and several Arab states, where they are a benchmark for those seeking the excellence and style of Italian-made greenery.

A message of sustainability and beauty

Participating in the Dubai fair stems from the desire to promote green culture as an essential element for the well-being of cities and quality of life.

The companies in the District present innovative solutions for urban regeneration, climate mitigation, and landscape enhancement, with a particular focus on sustainability and biodiversity.

The participation of the Horticultural District of Saonara in the My Plant & Garden Middle East Green Expo,” says Andrea Salmaso, president of the District, "represents an important step in the international promotion of our production chain. The District was founded and developed in an area that has been synonymous with Italian horticultural excellence for over a century, an area where expertise, passion, and innovation have been handed down from generation to generation. Our goal is to promote the products of companies in Saonara and the entire Veneto region worldwide, highlighting the quality of our greenery, the sustainability of our processes, and our ability to respond to new challenges in the environment and landscape design. Being present in Dubai, thanks to the support of the Padua Chamber of Commerce and the collaboration of Venicepromex and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Dubai, means telling a story of work and beauty that combines tradition and modernity, which we want to share with operators, landscape architects, and international buyers interested in the best of Made in Italy in the ornamental greenery sector.

An invitation to discover Veneto's greenery in Dubai
